Fasting and Feeding

چکیده
The widespread interest in the subject of this paper, excited by recent successful and unsuccessful attempts to sustain life under abnormal conditions, and the existence of a general desire for information respecting the history of similar efforts made in the past, have induced me to collect the narratives here brought together. No explanation need be offered of the apparent want of connection to be observed in the article, although as far as possible a definite sequence has been maintained. The literature of the subject is, indeed, most extensive, and this, in place of making the task of collating an easy one, has rather served to embarrass in the effort to present the most reliable experiences. It must not be supposed that all the stories here collected are to be received as trustworthy; many, indeed, bear the stamp of highly imaginative genius; but all possess more or less

متن کاملFasting-Induced Protein Phosphatase 1 Regulatory Subunit Contributes to Postprandial Blood Glucose Homeostasis via Regulation of Hepatic Glycogenesis
OBJECTIVE Most animals experience fasting-feeding cycles throughout their lives. It is well known that the liver plays a central role in regulating glycogen metabolism. However, how hepatic glycogenesis is coordinated with the fasting-feeding cycle to control postprandial glucose homeostasis remains largely unknown. This study determines the molecular mechanism underlying the coupling of hepati...
متن کاملIslamic fasting and oral health and diseases
Fasting is a religious obligation, which can be challenging for individuals with oral conditions due to its stringent code of conduct. Moreover, food abstinence during fasting can restrict oral feeding even further in patients whose nutrition has been already compromised. Previous research has mainly concentrated on oral hygiene and gum health, disregarding orodental conditions and diseases. Th...
متن کاملDiet and feeding pattern affect the diurnal dynamics of the gut microbiome.
The gut microbiome and daily feeding/fasting cycle influence host metabolism and contribute to obesity and metabolic diseases. However, fundamental characteristics of this relationship between the feeding/fasting cycle and the gut microbiome are unknown. Our studies show that the gut microbiome is highly dynamic, exhibiting daily cyclical fluctuations in composition. Diet-induced obesity dampen...
